Her mother and father are an odd match, more alone in spirit than united, but they've acclimated to a harsh existence to Montana, farming winter wheat. Ellen Wood, is nineteen and the only daughter of a Vermont-born veteran of the Great War and his war bride from a remote Siberian posting. And there's a good reason we always have a copy on hand of this relatively obscure novel by a woman novelist little known outside of the Plains. A string of P&P booksellers has been quietly, steadily putting Winter Wheat into customer's hands for almost a decade.
